Stipend: Ph.D and Integrated Ph.D students receive a monthly scholarship of Rs 16,000/- enhanced to Rs 18,000/- after registration

M.Sc students receive a monthly scholarship of Rs 12000/-

Duration: Ph.D program 5 years; Integrated Ph.D program 6 years; M.Sc program 3 years

Eligibility: Candidates in the final year of qualifying degree can also apply

For Ph.D in TCIS; M.Sc in Physics, Chemistry or Biology

Computer and Systems Sciences (including Communications and Math Finance): For Ph.D; B.E./ B.Tech/ M.E./ M.Tech/MCA/ M.Sc degree holders in Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Electronics and Communications Engineering/ Electrical Engineering

Exceptionally well qualified students with B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech/M.Sc or equivalent degrees in other disciplines may also be considered

Candidates not holding a Master’s degree and admitted to a Ph.D/Int Ph.D program can receive M.Sc degree by fulfilling prescribed requirements (see for details)

Application Procedure: Students who wish to apply for the Ph.D programme at CAM, Bengaluru will have to select Ph.D Mumbai in the application form

Further, in the application, they can indicate their preference for being considered for Ph.D programme Bengaluru

Students applying for Ph.D Mumbai and who are eligible for Integrated Ph.D programme at Bangalore can indicate their preference in the application form for being considered for Int Ph.D Bengaluru

Similarly students applying for Int Ph.D Bangalore and who wish to be considered for Ph.D Mumbai can indicate their preference in the application form

Biology: The TIFR Nationwide Entrance Examination (GS-2014) for Biology is also called the Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS)

Each participating institution has its own admission procedure, and only the test scores of the TIFR exam (JGEEBILS) are common

Students need to apply separately to the concerned institution, indicating the TIFR entrance test reference code

Please refer to the individual websites of participating institutions for details of their admissions process

Results of the TIFR entrance test for Biology (JGEEBILS) will be shared by all participating institutions

Systems Science: GATE score based applications in Systems Science (including Communications and Math Finance)

Students with exceptional performance in GATE examination of 2012/2014 in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering may apply for the Ph.D program without appearing for the TIFR entrance test

The link for GATE score based applications will be made available on website on 01st February, 2014

Last date for applying will be two weeks after the GATE 2014 results are displayed on their website

In case a student takes the TIFR entrance test and also submits a GATE score based application, the better of the two performances will be considered

Overseas Students (Physics): An overseas applicant can write to the Admissions Co-ordinator, subject board of physics, ([email protected]) with his/her curriculum vitae, academic records, publications if any, and ask 3 referees to write about the aptitude and qualifications of the candidate to pursue graduate studies at TIFR

The referees should be teachers of the candidate in undergraduate and/or M.Sc levels in relevant subjects

If on the basis of material provided, the application is found to be promising, a written test may be arranged at a foreign university where we have faculty contacts or at an Indian embassy abroad

At present, TIFR has only a Ph.D programme with full time study in Physics and no separate M.Sc programme in this subject

Admission Procedure: The admissions procedure (in all subjects, except science education) consists of a written test at one of the several nationwide centres, followed by interviews of shortlisted candidates

Shortlisted candidates will be called for interviews to be held during end-February to early-April, 2014

Exact dates would be announced later

Results of the entrance examination will be announced on 15th January, 2014 and students shortlisted for interview will be intimated by email
