Admission to Pre-Sea General Purpose Rating Training Course January-2014 batch

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission into Pre-sea General Purpose Rating course (Ships’ crew) as follows

Aim and Objective: To produce a new generation of seamen who are educated, trained, skilled and disciplined and capable of taking up challenges brought in by modern technological advances onboard Merchant Ships

To provide training as per International Standard, instill spirit of adventure so as to enable the trainees to withstand the stress and strain of sea voyage and to develop national integrity

To expose the trainees to a group-life, to inculcate in them the values of discipline, dutifulness and loyalty

Faculty: The entire training meets the highest standard set up by International Maritime Organization and complies fully with the syllabus prescribed and approved by the Director General of Shipping, Mumbai

The course is conducted under the strict supervision and instruction of a team of qualified, experienced and dedicated Master Mariners, Chief Engineer, Ex-Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard and Port Trust personnel

Course offered: Pre-sea General Purpose Rating Training

Duration: 6th (six) months, compulsory residential

Educational Qualification: Candidate must have passed 10th std. with pass in Science, Mathematics and English as subjects securing minimum 40% mark in aggregate and 40% in English

If 40% in English is not secured in 10th std., the English of 40% mark will be considered in 10+2 Std. or;

Candidate must have passed ITI-2 year Engineering Trades from Govt. approved institute with minimum 50% aggregate marks in final year and minimum 40% in English in 10th std. or in 10+2 std.

Age: Must have completed 17½ years and not more than 25 years .as on 01st January, 2014

Medical Standard: All the candidates should be physically fit for the sea service as per Merchant Shipping Act (Medical Examination for DGS approved medical) Seafarers Rules, 2000

Eyesight should be 6/6 with normal vision-no colour blindness and height-158 cm (minimum), weight-48 kgs minimum

Selection procedure:

The intake capacity of the Academy is 40 (forty) per batch

The training commences on 01st January 2014

The short listed (eligible) candidates will be called to the Academy for selection

In the selection procedure, the candidate has to undergo a medical & physical test. In order to ascertain the merit of the candidates, the Academy may conduct a written and viva-voce test in English

The selection will be strictly on merit basis

Reservation: There will be a reservation of 15% of seats for SC/ST candidates & 50% seat for Odiya candidates

However, if the number of required candidates in the above category is not available, the vacancy will be offered to the other candidates

Course fees: Rs.55,000/- (for Odiya) Rs.70, 000/- (for Non-odiya) students inclusive of lodging, boarding, tuition and exam fees

How to apply: Application forms and prospectus are to be downloaded from our website and completed application forms should be submitted to the Academy along with a demand draft of Rs.500/- (Rupees Five hundred) only and attested photo copies of relevant documents

Down load application form and prospectus from our web site and submit application form with requisite documents as mentioned in the form along with a demand draft (DD) of Rs.500/- (Five hundred)  drawn in favour of “Orissa Maritime Academy” payable at Paradip

Last date of receipt of application is 24th October, 2013

The terms and conditions will apply as per the prospectus or candidates are advised not to come through any broker/agents and not to approach any one for admission with unfair means

Candidates found approaching someone with unfair means will be disqualified

Admission is subject to rules and regulations of Directorate General of Shipping

The Academy reserves its right to cancel the entire admission process in case of any unforeseen circumstances

Admission to this course in the Academy does not guarantee job/Candidates have to look for a job in open market
