NIT Tiruchirappalli invites applications for MSc (by research) / PhD Programs 2016

National Institute of Technology (NIT), Tiruchirappalli invites applications for admission to full time and part time Master of Science (MSc) by Research and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs for the session 2015-2016 (January 2016 Session). NIT Tiruchirappalli MSc PhD Admission Notification 2016 has been announced.

The Institute offers PhD program under Engineering, Architecture, Management Studies, Computer Applications, Science and Humanities and MSc program under all branches of Engineering

Important Dates

For MSc Program:

Last date for submitting filled in application: 11th December 2015 (Friday)

Date of counseling (stipendiary category): 06th January 2016 (Wednesday)

Date of Interview (sponsored category): Wednesday, January 06, 2016.

For PhD Program:

Last date for submitting filled in application: 11th December 2015 (Friday)

Date of written test: 07th January 2016 (Thursday, 10.30 am)

Date of interview: 08th January 2016 (Friday, 10.30 am)

Duration of the Program

The duration of the program and the time for submission of the thesis are counted from the date of provisional registration. The minimum duration of the Part-time PhD Program shall be three years for both categories (External and on campus)

Eligibility Criteria

For Faculty of Engineering: Candidates should have Bachelor’s and Master’s degree/M.S. (by Research) in Engineering/Technology in the appropriate branch of study with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks (CGPA 6.5/10) in UG or PG for admission under OC/OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0/10 for SC/ST/PH candidates

For Metallurgical and Materials Engg Dept.: Candidates with PG degree in Science (Physics/Chemistry/Material Science/Applied Physics/Applied Chemistry) followed by M.Tech degree/MSc (by Research) in Material Science and Engg/equivalent PG degree in related discipline are also eligible to apply

For Civil Engineering Dept.: Candidates with Geomatics, Remote Sensing, Ocean Engineering and Agricultural Engg in undergraduate or post-graduate are also eligible to apply for GIS and Remote sensing specialization

Faculty of Architecture: Candidates should have bachelors degree in Architecture/Planning and master’s degree in Architecture/Design/Planning/Building Engg & Management/Building Technology or its equivalent with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks (CGPA 6.5/10) in UG or PG for admission under OC/OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0/10 for SC/ST/PH candidates

Management Studies: Candidates should have master’s degree in business administration with NET/UGC/CAT/ATMA/XAT/MAT or Master’s degree in Industrial Engg/Industrial Management with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks (CGPA 6.5/10) in UG or PG for admission under OC/OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0/10 for SC/ST/PH candidates

Candidates with the above eligibility requirements and JRF or equivalent qualifications may also apply.

Computer Applications: Candidates should have Master’s degree in Computer Applications or M.Sc (Computer Science/OR&CA) with a valid GATE/UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET score with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks (CGPA 6.5/10) in UG or PG for admission under OC/OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0/10 for SC/ST/PH candidates with a valid GATE/UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET score

Faculty of Science & Humanities (Maths/Chemistry/Economics/English): Candidates should have Master’s degree in the relevant discipline of Science, Humanities, Social Sci., Economics with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks (CGPA 6.5/10) with a valid GATE/UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET score for admission under OC/OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0/10 for SC/ST/PH candidates with a valid GATE/UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET score

Physics Dept.: Candidates should have Master’s degree in Physics/Applied Physics/Material Science/Applied Electronics with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.5/10 with a valid GATE/UGC/CSIR/NET score for admission under OC/OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0/10 for SC/ST/PH candidates with a valid GATE/UGC/CSIR/NET score

In case of AMIE /AMIIM candidates, minimum of 55% is eligible for admission in all the branches

Selection Procedure

For both the categories, the mode and norms for selection shall be on par with those in force for full-time PhD candidates. Following the scrutiny and short-listing of the applications, eligible candidates will be called to attend a written test

For M.S under stipendiary category, selection is based on GATE score and under sponsored category; selection is based on the interview

For PhD students, selection is based on the performance in written test and interview

The filled up application form along with self-attested photo copies of mark sheets, degree certificates, community certificate, and the necessary enclosures and a non-refundable registration fee of Rs.300/- (Rs.100/- for SC/ST/PH) by means of Demand Draft drawn not earlier than 09th November 2015, in favor of “The Director, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli” payable at Tiruchirappalli should reach “The Chairperson(MS/PhD Admissions), Office of the Dean (Academic), National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli-620015” on or before 11th December 2015
