NIT Karnataka notifies Summer Internship Programme 2014

National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal notifies admission to Summer Internship Programme for 2014 session.

The NITK – Summer Internship Programme (NITK-SIP) aims to promote awareness and interest in good quality academic research among young students of Engineering, Basic Sciences, Management and Humanities through an Internship during summer vacation

The internships will be financially supported by the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal

Totally 30 internships will be provided. Students selected from eligible applicants, will get the opportunity to work on research mini-projects under the mentorship of NITK faculty during the coming summer vacation (26th May 2014 – 12th July 2014)

Eligibility NIT Karnataka SIP 2014:

Students who are presently completing the third year (or sixth semester) B.Tech/ BE, and students completing the first year (or second semester) of M.Tech/ ME/M.Sc/ MBA are eligible to apply for NITK-SIP

Selection of interns will be made by respective departments based on academic performance in university examinations, paper presentations at conferences/workshops, projects executed, design contests participated, and other awards/ distinctions obtained. Preference will be given to students from Institutions with which NITK has a MoU for academic and research cooperation

Contact Period: Students selected for NITK-SIP are required to be present in the campus and carry out the allotted project work over a contact period of minimum 30 days and a maximum of 45 days between 26th May 2014 – 12th July 2014

Stipend: A stipend of Rs.100/- per day will be paid to each student during the contact period mentioned above

Allowance for food, at a rate decided by the Dean(R&C), will be provided separately. The Interns will be provided access to the Central Library and the Central Computer Center, at NITK

Accommodations will we provided to the students in NITK Hostels

Application Form: Students interested in NITK-SIP, are required to send a research proposal along with the application form and necessary enclosures by speed-post to the Head of the Department where the student wishes to carry out the internship

An advance copy of the application must also be sent by email to the Head of the Department along with scanned copies of relevant documents

The research proposal must contain a detailed description of the research problem that the student wishes to work on, along with a brief introduction to the problem, the proposed work plan, and the expected outcome of the project work

Additional Details: A faculty-mentor will be allotted to each student selected for NITK-SIP, from the relevant department. After finalizing the area of study in consultation with the faculty mentor each student is required to submit an initial report (of 1-2 pages) containing introduction to the project topic, the work-plan for the research work and the expected outcome of the project

On completion of the NITK-SIP program, each student is required to submit a detailed technical report (of 20-30 pages), containing description of the research problem, literature survey, details of the methodology adopted, details of the experiments carried out, list of items procured for the project and the findings/ conclusions of the study

The intern is also required to present his work through a seminar in the department, which will form the basis for assessment of the project work. On successful completion of the project, the intern will be awarded a commendation certificate by NITK
