National Museum New Delhi Training Course admission 2014

Conservation Laboratory, National Museum, New Delhi, announces admission for three months Training Course on Care of Paintings including Illustrated Manuscripts for 2014.

The course shall start from 03rd November 2014 to 02nd February 2015

Conservation Laboratory, National Museum, New Delhi will organize its annual programme of three months Intensive Training Course on Care of Museum Material from 03rd November, 2014 to 02nd February, 2015

The aim of the training is to impart both theoretical and some practical training in the field of conservation of art objects, taking one subject each year. The topic of training this year is ‘CARE OF PAINTINGS including ILLUSTRATED MANUSCRIPTS’

The training helps personnel’s in conservation field to achieve specialization according to the needs of their collection. The lectures and practical demonstrations will be delivered by experts in the field.

During the training field trips will also be organised to study field problems and their remedies. At the end, evaluation of the performance of trainees is done by an expert committee and certificates are distributed


The following topics will be discussed:

1. History of Paintings and manuscripts

2. Classification of materials

3. Deterioration factors-both natural and artificial and their control

4. Conventional methods in preventive conservation

5. Conservation techniques

6. Examination techniques used for technical study.

7. Storage and display

8. Handling and transportation

Duration of Course: 3 Months

Eligibility: Conservation personnel from art academics, departments of archaeology, libraries, and other institutions will be eligible to participate, having one year experiences; or Conservation personnel’s from NMI & Other academic Institutions from the field; or Graduate preferably in Science with one year experiences in institute of repute in the field; or Artist having three years proven experience in their field

Number of Participants: Number of trainees would be 10 (ten) only

Scholarship: Scholarship of Rs.1800/- per month will be available for selected candidates; decision of the selection committee for award of scholarship shall be final

Fees: No fee is charged for attending the training programme

T.A/D.A: The Central or State Government officers attending the training programme should avail T.A/D.A from their sponsoring institutions, and are not eligible for scholarship

Candidates not getting T.A/D.A from their institution may be considered for scholarship by the selection committee

Accommodation: Participants will have to make their own arrangement for boarding and lodging; the laboratory will, however, help them in locating suitable accommodation

Weather: Weather in Delhi is cold during this period (temperature 10-15 C)

Mode of Selection: The candidates will be selected on the basis of merit depending on qualifications and experience by the selection committee
