ICMR announces Short Term Studentship Program 2015

Indian Council of Medical Research invites applications from undergraduate medical students for Short Term Studentship Program for 2015 session.

Applications are invited from interested undergraduate medical students to participate in the Short Term Studentship Program (STS 2015) to be conducted by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)

The main objective of this program is to provide an opportunity to undergraduate medical students to familiarize themselves with research methodology and techniques by being associated for a short duration with their seniors on ongoing research program or by undertaking independent projects

This may serve as an incentive for them to take up research as a career in the future. The Institution must provide the student with all facilities for carrying out research

During the last 35 years, medical undergraduate students of various medical colleges in the country have shown keen interest in Council’s Short Term Research Studentship (STS) program

The Council has decided to continue this program by awarding limited number of studentships to deserving undergraduate students during the vacations for the year 2015


This program is only for undergraduate medical & dental students (MBBS/BDS) before they appear in their final exams and therefore, interns/ PG students are not eligible to apply. Students of paramedical/non-medical courses may not apply; the student must carry out the research in his/ her own medical college under the guide who is employed in the medical college as a faculty

Only permanent full time faculty members working in any of the dept. of the Medical College where the student is enrolled can act as the guide. Part time consultants/visiting faculty/ residents/Tutors/Pool officers/ PG students cannot be the guide

Students who are holding OCI cards/ PIO cards/ NRI’s studying in Indian medical college can also apply and copy of the OCI/ PIO/ NRI card must be submitted; students from foreign medical colleges are not eligible for this program

Admission Procedure

This is a fully online program. No hard copies have to be submitted

The student is required to register on ICMR website online by 10th January 2015, submit the application form and proposal online latest by 27th January 2015 which will be evaluated by the Council

Results will be announced in April 2015 and list of selected students displayed on the website

If selected, the student is expected to complete the project in any two given months between April and September 2015 and submit the report before the last date of submission i.e. 15th October 2015

The student will be awarded stipend and certificate only if his/ her report is approved

Stipend for Student: The value of the studentship will be Rs.5000/- per month for 2 months’ duration (Rs 10,000/- only) and is meant to be a stipend for the student; cost of research must be borne by Medical College/ Institution where research is carried out

STS is a paperless online program of the Council Submission of STS 2015 application/proposal is a two step process:

  1. Registration of student details and e-mail address between: 10th December 2014 to 10th Jan 2015 (Fill in Part A of Online Form)
  2. Submission of application/proposal along with other details between 11th Jan to 27th Jan 2015 (Fill in Part B,C & D of Online Form) by 05.00 pm
