Ph.D. (Full Time/Part Time/Off Campus) Under MHRD/Ph.D. (Full Time) Under TEQIP-II/Ph.D. (Full Time) Admission July and August-2013-14


Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D. (Full Time/Part Time/Off Campus) programme for July/Aug 2013

Ph.D. Programmes:

The Ph.D. programmes shall be offered in the following departments/centres:

Civil Engg/Computer Science & Engg/Electrical Engg/Electronics & Communication Engg/Mechanical Engg/Architecture/Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Centre for Energy and Environment/Centre for Material Science and Engg/Humanities and Social Sciences

Ph.D. in Engineering/Architecture (including Centres)

The applicant must have a Master Degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture in appropriate discipline with CGPI of 6.5 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 60% marks in case of Open/OBC candidates in qualifying degree

Whereas in case of SC/ST candidates a CGPI of 6.0 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 55% marks in qualifying degree will be applicable

As per various notices circulated by the AICTE all the qualifications acquired through distance mode at Bachelor and Master level in the field of Eng/Technology and Architecture are not recognized

Such candidates with degree from distance mode may not be considered eligible

Ph.D. in Applied Sciences/ Ph.D. in Humanities & Social Sciences:

The applicant must have a master degree in relevant science subject with CGPI of 6.5 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 60% marks in case of Open/OBC candidates in qualifying degree

Whereas in case of SC/ST candidates a CGPI of 6.0 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 55% marks in qualifying degree will be applicable

Fee Structure:

Ph.D (Full Time): Hosteller: 28300+16900; day scholar: 25300/-

Ph.D (Off Campus): Hosteller: 15700/-

Ph.D (NIT Faculty): 4350/-

Remarks: The security deposit of Rs. 16900/- is to be deposited by all hostellers in respective hostel

Hostel accommodation shall be provided subject to availability

MHRD: Such assistantships are awarded on a semester to semester basis to the candidates having M.Tech. or equivalent degree for a period of up to eight semesters (depending upon the availability of funds)

The stipend for the assistantship is paid at the approved rates as notified by AICTE/MHRD from time to time

TEQIP-II: The Institute may provide stipend/fellowship as per MHRD norms funded by TEQIP-II for the duration of the TEQIP-II scheme only

Presently, the TEQIP-II scheme is till December 2014

A student shall have no claim for the stipend/fellowship after the completion of TEQIP-II programme

Other Funding Agencies

Any full time Ph.D. student having valid JRF certificates from funding agencies such as UGC/CSIR/DST etc. of Govt. of India will be paid stipend/fellowship strictly as per terms and conditions of the funding agency

NIT Hamirpur shall not provide any stipend/fellowship to such candidates

Admission Procedure:

The applicants shall apply for admission on the prescribed form which can be downloaded from Institute website

The duly completed application must reach the office of Dean (Academic) latest by 02nd August, 2013 upto 5.00 p.m.

The applications shall be scrutinized by the dept selection committee (DSC) of different departments/centres

The list of shortlisted candidates found eligible for written test shall be displayed on Institute website by respective Head of Department/Centre on 07th August, 2013 and no separate call letter will be issued

Stage-I: All the shortlisted candidates found eligible are required to qualify in a written examination in the relevant discipline conducted by the Institute on 13th August, 2013 at 9.00 a.m.

The syllabi for the written test are available on the Institute website

The written test shall be of 90 minutes duration for 60 marks consisting of multiple choice questions in the relevant discipline

Those who qualify in the written test shall only be eligible for Stage-II

List of such candidates will be displayed on the notice board of the concerned department/centre on the same day (i.e. 13th August, 2013)

The candidates who qualify to Stage-II shall appear for interview and presentation on 14th August, 2013 at 9.00 a.m. before the duly constituted Departmental Selection Committee (DSC)

The selected candidates will have to register on or before 19th August, 2013 (5.00 p.m.) for the course work in consultation with the Supervisor/Convener DPGC/SRC as the case may be

The selected candidate, who will complete all the examinations including project/thesis examination and the viva voce before the date of admission (i.e. 13th August, 2013 to 14th August, 2013) but is unable to produce the certificate as proof of having passed and secured the minimum specified qualifying marks, may be considered for provisional admission

However, if admitted provisionally, they will be required to produce the evidence of their having passed the qualifying degree examination by 15th August, 2013, failing which the admission may be cancelled

The candidates are required to produce the following documents in original as well as one copy thereof at the time of admission on 13th August, 2013 to 14th August, 2013

Matriculation Examination Certificate; Qualifying Degree Certificate; Marks Sheets of Qualifying Degree; Character Certificate; Certificate of category (OBC/SC/ST), if applicable, as per format available on Institute website (OBC certificate must be issued on or after 01st April, 2013)

GATE/NET Score Card, if applicable; Colored passport size photographs (4 Nos.); Undertaking in required format (for OBC Category) as per format available on Institute website

The selected candidates are also required to produce additional documents as specified on the Institute website (Admission Desk) by 19th August, 2013

Application form:

Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D. (Full Time/Part Time/Off Campus) programme for July/Aug 2013 as per the details given in this brochure, alongwith fee in the form of crossed Bank Draft for Rs. 500/- (Rupees Five Hundred only) drawn in favour of the Registrar, NIT Hamirpur Himachal Pradesh-177005, payable at State Bank of India, NIT Hamirpur (Branch Code No. 10367)

Duly filled/completed application should reach in the office of Dean (Academic), National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh)-177005 by 02nd August, 2013 upto 5.00 p.m.

Application form found incomplete or received after the last date i.e. 02nd August, 2013 (in the office of Dean (Academic)), will be rejected without any intimation to the candidate and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard

The candidates should note that the Institute will not be responsible for postal delay or any irregularities in submitting the applications

In case, a candidate wants to apply for programmes in more than one department/centre, he/she is required to send separate applications for each programme alongwith processing fee of Rs. 500/- (Rupees Five Hundred only)
